Photographed by Chloé Chanté Leenheer, this book captures the stories of Ukrainian ballet dancers who, despite their displacement, have found a refuge in a location that is also deeply significant for the photographer — The Royal Conservatoire in The Hague, where her own creative career as a dancer began.

A personal tragedy at the age of 12 redirected her path from the dance floor to behind the lens. Yet, her love for dance remains at the core of her work, forging a powerful connection within this project.

Each image is an act of engagement, a moment in time that invites us to pause, to reflect, and to feel. Transcending borders, these photographs speak a universal language of the heart, compelling us to immerse ourselves in the personal narratives of three young artists who have been forced to leave their motherland due to the war in Ukraine.
